At the heart of this initiative is a simple truth: pollinators are key to our survival, supporting food security, restoring biodiversity, and creating climate-resilient livelihoods. From fruit orchards to forests, smallholder farms to bee sanctuaries, this initiative aims to deploy one million managed beehives through a series of high-impact, community-driven projects — beginning with the flagship Hive to Harvest Project.

Why This Initiative Matters

Bees are not just about honey — they are frontline workers for food production, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods. Tanzania’s smallholder farmers depend on pollination for crops like mangoes, sunflowers, avocado, and watermelon. Yet pollinator populations are under severe threat.

The 1 Million Hive Impact Initiative recognizes that empowering communities with hives is not just an agricultural intervention — it is an environmental and economic solution.

Spotlight Project: Hive to Harvest

The first major rollout under this initiative is the Hive to Harvest Project — a model that places managed beehives directly onto pollination-dependent smallholder farms.

This project supports farmers in increasing yields, improving household incomes, and restoring biodiversity by:

• Deploying beehives to selected farms

• Training farmers in beekeeping and sustainable practices

• Creating pollination corridors and nectar gardens

• Promoting women and youth engagement in green agri-enterprise

• Linking beekeepers to markets and certification

From Njombe to Dodoma, this project is already gaining traction among farmer cooperatives and local authorities.
