Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Pinda – Beekeeper. Statesman. Rural Transformation Champion.

Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Pinda, Tanzania’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2015, has long been a champion of sustainable agriculture and inclusive rural development. But beyond politics, he is a passionate, hands-on beekeeper, dedicating his post-leadership years to practicing what he once advocated from podiums.

His farm — Pinda Farm in Zuzu, Dodoma — spans 79 acres of integrated agriculture: over 400 modern beehives, vibrant grape and mango orchards, a fish farm, and a wide demonstration area that attracts students, journalists, researchers, and policymakers alike.

“Mizengo Pinda is the Prime Minister of Tanzania. And I don't know much about his politics but I can say this: he is a beekeeper. Not like Obama, who ‘has’ a beehive… but Mr. Pinda apparently takes an active interest in his bees and has been known to go off on tangents about them at meetings.”— Emo-Snal Bee Blog, 2010

This deep personal passion has earned him national and international admiration — not just for promoting beekeeping, but living it. At BEEASY2025, he will speak on:
“Modern Beekeeping for Food Security and Rural Livelihoods”

“Beekeeping is more than honey — it’s a path to food, income, and dignity.”
— Hon. Mizengo Pinda
